I learnt this recipe from one of my friends Vidhya who cooks wonderful south indian dishes.This curry is a perfect companion for sambar/dhal
Ingredients
Snakegourd (podalangai) chopped: 1.5 cups
Channa dal (Kadala parupu): 1/2 cup
Onion chopped: 1 medium sized
Tomato chopped: 1 small
Chilli powder: 1 tsp
Coriander powder: 1 tsp
Hing: a pinch
Tumeric powder: 1/4 tsp
Salt: 1 tsp
Grated coconut: 2 tablespoon (optional)
For seasoning
Oil: 2 tsp
Mustard seeds: 1 tsp
Urad dal: 1 tsp
Curry leaves: a sprig
Red chilli: 1 or 2
Procedure:
Step1:
Soak the channa dal with enough water for 10 minutes
Step2:
Heat 2 tsp of oil in a pressure cooker/pressure pan and add mustard seeds. Once they start spluttering add urad dhal, curry leaves and red chillies.
Step3:
Add chopped onions and saute until it becomes translucent
Step4:
Add chopped tomatoes and saute for a couple of minutes
Step5:
Add soaked chana dhal followed by chopped snake gaurd
Step6:
Now add chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, salt and hing and stir well
Step7:
Add 3/4 cup of water and pressure cook for 3 whistles
Step8:
Garnish with grated coconut (optional)
